Bilingual Type

We were introduced to basic principles of Arabic typography and were tasked to create a multi-page type specimen highlighting English and Arabic typography. The patterns within this work was created using Arabic type form and one quote was highlighted in the composition.

I didn’t have a clear idea of what to do at first, but while experimenting with different Arabic typefaces, I began creating unique patterns. After selecting my two favorite patterns, I enlarged them so they extended beyond the borders and arranged the text in different directions. I placed the Arabic quote in the center and mirrored it to give it a stronger visual presence. Finally, I chose vibrant colors that added emphasis and guided the viewer’s eye around the design.
